Product01 - Rage EP

Product.01 return with their most full on bass womp assault to date. Getting straight down to business it’s a frenzy of twitchy edits, tweaked out vox and intense subs. Vocal haters can lap up the instrumental \'no vox mix\' and get in on the rage.

Fix me - Broken robot mix is described by Marc Adamo himself as “whacked out droid on a mic and bass slurps in a crisis\' or sunmmitlikedat.” We hear it as an incredible crossover track that is sure to set nearly any dancefloor into a frenzy that it encounters.

Badman Near Dark - Combat Recordings

South London beatsmith Dylan Richards aka. King Cannibal‘s tracks have been punishing soundsystems and causing structural damage around London for some time now. His unique take on dancehall bashment infuses it’s infectious, brutal body-juddering riddims with the ferocious drum programming and dissonant, high-tech filth of late 90’s jungle.

A > [ Badman Near Dark ] (original)
http://www.addictech.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=13776

Android snarls, a charging, filthy bassline and superbly fierce drumwork make this the bastard crossover between hard electronic dancehall like The Bug and Stereotyp, and late 90’s techy jungle dons of Dillinja, Nico, Ed Rush and Optical. Fierce and heavy on the bass yet rhythmically agile and laced with dissonant atmospherics, Near Dark is mutant tech dancehall for Predator skanking, amid burning cities and the total collapse of civilisation.

It’s no surprise that his menacing tearout beats have long been championed by the likes of Rag and Bone Records, Combat, Mary Anne Hobbs, Amon Tobin, Kid 606, Bong Ra… just to name a few.

B > [ Badman Near Dark ] (Stormfield’s Burning Cities remix)
http://www.addictech.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=13775

Combat boss Stormfield mutates the 105bpm original into a 140bpm assault track that sits somewhere between the filthy rolling breaks and beats of Rag’n‘Bone, and the deep electro of Monolake or acid excursions of Skam’s Rob Hall. Caging a militant riddim around the original rolling bassline to give a broken, yet powerful dancefloor effect that that stops just short of being 4/4 techno, it kicks into full sprint from the first drop. A sombre mantra permeates the track, providing total stillness amid the frenzy of snarls, slashes and clattering drumwork, much like a samurai who enters with a serene mind into the absolute chaos of battle. A scorching, syncopated acid line cuts into the breakdown, dirty metallic hi hats keeping the tension, before it all kicks back into the 2nd drop.

C > [ Badman Near Dark ] (Komonazmuk remix)
http://www.addictech.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=13774

Funny how some things come full circle: With a tune so heavily influenced by the Cannibal’s heady days of raving to classic 90’s techstep drum’n‘bass, it seemed appropriate to ask Bristolian Kieran Lomax (aka the legendary Ice Minus of Moving Shadow / Renegade Hardware) to step up in his Komonazmuk guise and rework the track. The result is this colossal dubstep monster, an early version of which was previewed on King Cannibal’s Radio 1 set courtesy of Mary Anne Hobbs, during the Scorn vs. King Cannibal sound-off.

Similar to his co-production with White Boi on COMBAT13 and COMBAT14, he builds an expectedly powerful and menacing soundsytem track, like some snarling alien beast trapped behind an impenetrably solid wall of bass and drumwork. In the track’s early stages, even a test mp3 of this tune managed to out-blast most finished tracks in the club… imagine what damage this final version will do.

D > [ Badman Near Dark ] (Blackmass Plastics remix)
http://www.addictech.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=13773

Long time veteran of dirty bass wars, Blackmass Plastics should need no introduction especially since his recent Do the Mash EP is still burning up soundsystems all over. His remix is expectedly rolling, bass-driven and funky in a way that can only be described as utterly filthy, and laced with toxic industrial atmospheres that call to mind a paranoid chase through deserted nuclear bunker, stumbling in terror through the darkness, hounded by the tortured growls and razor sharp snares of some huge beast you can’t see.

This remix appears as an cheeky exclusive on the digital version of the release :)

Big things are happening for The Cannibal this year, having been recently signed to Ninja Tune, and with DJ support from right across the board and a load of gigs lined up. Expect a load of amazingly ferocious tracks that no labels have dared to release… until now.

Cutting edge sounds of early Moog and Roland synthesizers, as well as an innate understanding of percussion, made the love of computer based music making come naturally for Nanda. His inspiration continues to be fueled with the complete sentiment of how music touches so many people and is motivated to spread this positive vibe through his music making. Currently residing in Santa Cruz CA, he is busy working on future developments to dose the world with abstract tones of audio psychedelia. Vast musical influences range from IDM and Breakbeat, to Dub and World Fusion. In today’s fight against the dark forces, using music as the weapon, there is no plan on slowing this ship down.

Local Zeros New Release !!! Bullet Holes Vol 2 - Check it!

Local Zeros is the home for solo output of producer Marc Adamo, who under his Product.01 guise has remixed the likes of Si Beg/BuckFunk3000, Jean Paul Bondi/Volsoc, Dave Clarke, Adam Freeland and many more. Bullet Holes keeps it coming in a hard and messed up style, with precision-moulded glitch and heavy UK bass as the main components in the mix. Expect plenty of dark, mutated dance-floor killers like Vicious Exit, which came like a shot out of the dark and landed on Tayo’s Fabric Live32 mix; quickly becoming one of the most sought after tracks with its crossover appeal for both tweaked-out breaks connoisseurs and dubstep bass-heads.

Available now, Addictech is very proud to offer the next Bullet Holes release exclusively to you!

Bullet Holes Round 2 : Cat: LZD02

1 - Throttlefunk

ThrottleFunk is one for the midnight rollers, with its hi-tek glitch edits and heavy rolling bass switch-ups. Loaded with more bang out goo than some DJs play in a whole set, the tripped out chords and twisted break downs will turn your head inside out and locked in till the final bleep.

2 - Krakupz

Krakupz injects the Detroit electro-bass sounds of UR/DJ Stingray with a dose of UK bass growl. Kicking off with some motor city tech-beats, it keeps piling on the bass-womp till it erupts with a barrage of tweaked out narcotic frequencies.

We also have the initial Bullet Holes release available as well - get in now and see why its a staple in the set of many different DJs!

Bullet Holes EP

Itchy fingers squeeze the trigger, blasting three rounds of unstoppable electro-breaks are coming straight at you.

Vicious Exit found its way into Tayo’s legendary FabricLive32 mix, which received some much deserved props for joining the dots between breaks, electro-bass and the emerging sounds of dubstep.

1 - Vicious Exit - http://www.addictech.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=11414

2 - Vicious Exit (Volum Remix - http://www.addictech.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=10511

3 - Swords Over Stratford - http://www.addictech.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=10509

[label freebie] midnightminustwo mix

the links for free stuff are at the bottom of this post ;)

who?
midnightminustwo (or mmii for short) was born at the arse end of 2007 when Phil Clodhoppa lost his job and spent far too much time in a record shop with Alexander Church, head honcho of Midnight Recordings. As Midnight’s roster was increasing, its scope of music was in danger of becoming too diluted, and it wanted to return to its roots of deep driving house. midnightminustwo was created as a sister label to release all forms of electronica and more, focusing less on singles and the vinyl market (which midnight recordings still pushes) in favour of concentrating on albums, eps and solid releases in the digital domain.

Manifesto
Yes, we have a manifesto. It makes us feel all important and stuff.

It’s the digital age, there’s no getting away from it. It’s egalitarian, it’s liberating, it’s opened the floodgates, along with technology that turned the spare bedroom in every 3rd house into a studio. In the age of free downloads, p2p sharing and the whole social networking thing, where everyone can be the next Lily Allen, we still believe that there is room for a traditional ‘record’ company to exist, so long as it follows some basic rules. So, we use modern media and classic ideas. Releasing in digital, but making sure that the listener gets the same feeling you get unwrapping a new cd; cohesive releases spanning genres, quality artwork to print and keep, stringent quality control and sticking to our guns when it comes to what we want to release. We know it when we hear it. So will you.

Any label’s lifeblood is (or at least should be) its artists. Apart from the obvious fact that without them you’d have nothing to release, artist development and involvement is crucial at this grass roots level. It’s as much about attitude as it is chord progression, good music always has been. Put it this way, if you’d rather listen to Johnny Cash playing one chord, or a whole Katie Melua concert, which would you pick? (by the way, if the answer’s a Katie Melua concert, sorry for wasting your time, you can probably stop reading now). We sign people we believe in, people with passion, and people who believe in our passion too.

Patience is a virtue, and we’re not in the business of providing you with fast food. mmii’s main concern is releases with longevity, releases you want to phone people up and talk about, releases that you pick up again in a year and hear new things for the first time.

Artists/releases
We’re working with James Fox on a 6 track follow up to his debut release on Myuzyk. Full of northern promise, this mancunian is currently on a cultural exchange in London. Also known as Strategy he’s trod a steady path through years of graft on the dj circuit that’s led him to this, an e.p. chock full of depth, groove, atmosphere and a definite individual style. Having enjoyed his dj sets and radio shows it’s a joy to be able to show him off a bit on the label.

OG is a new kid to releasing tunes, but it doesn’t really show. Merging beats, rhythms and melodies from dance music that was around a long time before he was, with influences of broken beat, glitch, ragga and the huge heaviness of old school dub sound systems this ep is going to seriously mash up some heads.

Label owner Phil Clodhoppa’s finally putting his money where his mouth is and releasing the Clodhoppa album ‘Looking for the Exit’ on mmii. Having seen releases under the guises of ebb and kovacs (breakbeat) and koro inu (dub based house business), and radio shows on nuskoolbreaks.co.uk, breaks fm and now brap.fm and dj sets up and down the country, Clodhoppa now presents a full album of dub, jazz and drum and bass inspired broken beat. With tentative steps onto the circuit already made, the live band will be out in force to support this release.

Lot 49 Presents Lee Coombs Sampler OUT NOW!

Lot 49 Presents Lee Coombs Sampler

Samples can be heard on Lot49\'s myspace by clicking HERE

To coincide with the release of the Lee Coombs compilation album on Lot49, the label is releasing a special sampler with exclusive tracks taken from the mix. Coombs has been one of the forces that helped shape the sound of Breakbeat and later Tech Funk, whilst bringing a multitude of other influences to his production and DJ sets. His ability to draw on breaks, house, techno, electro and acid is what set him apart from the masses and is clearly reflected on what is being hailed as his most innovative mix compilation to date.

First up with have the man himself, partnered up with Australian talent Nick Thayer. ‘TFM’ is a straight for the jugular breaks animal with a huge atmospheric feel and rolling B-line to die for. This is a track that beautifully
reflects the vibe of the mix itself and is set to create dancefloor devastation.

Next in the blocks is Elite Force, the man behind the last Lot49 compilation and legend of the tech funk scene. ‘Engine’ is a one man musical monologue of everything that is good in breaks, tough and driving and produced with the finesse that seems to come so naturally to Shack, the man behind the Elite Force moniker.

Finally, label boss, Meat Katie puts his stamp on ‘God is Green’ the Alloy Mental track that was turning heads for the Skint label last year. Previously unreleased this mix perfectly jells the techno-centric sounds of Phil Kieran’s Alloy Mental project with Mr Katie’s undeniable dancefloor sensibilities. Outstanding stuff.

All in all, this is an energetic and near perfect fusion of some of the best tracks from today’s A list tech funk producers

Bassbin Twins - all great the favorite being the meat katie mix of \'god is green\' - yes!

Plump DJs - Cooombsey and NT track works best for me. look forward to hearing the whole comp.

Crystal Method - Solid release! Elite Force\'s Engine works very well!

Mark Dynamix - Solid breakbeat action from the best!

General Midi - Engine is massive! absolute killer :-) TFM comes in a close second MORE!!!

Dopamine -	3 solid tunes. the mk remix and \'engine\' will get plenty of plays from me.

Aston Shuffle - Will def be giving the Elite Force & Alloy Mental tracks a rub for sure

Aquasky - Lots of quality here. Am already playing the Engine track which is wicked

Nick Thayer - Smashing. Can\'t wait to hear the CD. Will be playing all of these...

Madox - YESSS! lovin the Alloy Mental rmx

_Downbeat 014 - Shodan - Big Sound / Shodan & Offkey- Don't Worry_

Downbeat 014

With their first release on Downbeat, Shodan & Offkey do not dissapoint. Both tracks are very well producded and driven for a large scale responce.

A: Shodan – Big Sound
Clip: http://www.downbeatproductions.com/ceos/SHODAN_BIG%20SOUND_CLIP.mp3

Steady beats under a funky self played organ riff, this intros vibe is setting up the heavy drop that’s sure to come. When it ends, the bass starts grinding and you know it’s going to be massive. Rolling out large, this tune cuts through your ear drums with its grimey sound until you then enter another section of thumping low-end bass that’ll devastate the any speaker system it’s played on. As this goes on, the drums and organ get a chance to play off one another as the tune rides out into the second breakdown. As things build back up, the last drop comes in and completely kills it with a new drum pattern and bassline to die for. Rolling out strong and rugged, this tune is really well put together and as the title say’s, BIG!

AA: Shodan & Offkey – Don’t Worry
Clip: http://www.downbeatproductions.com/ceos/SHODAN_OFFKEY_DONT%20WORRY_CLIP.mp3

Building drums with eerie sounds rushing in together form this nicely produced into starting off a vibe that’ll no doubt get you interested in what’s to come. As the beats drop out you’ll hear the statement, don’t worry, but you best take cover as it’s about to explode into some grimey business! Heavy drums, with a fast paced vibe and lot’s of edit work, this tune is energy at it’s best. Strong and rolling, you’re sure to have them jumping with this one. As you enter the second half, it yet again changes into a stomping roll out affair that’s packed with even more energy as the tune goes along into the last few minutes of madness. Very their own with top production work, these tunes are heavy and ride out with endless amounts of skill and ideas.

Tonight is the last weekly show from us as we\'ll be going monthly from now on landing at the same time but on the last Tuesday of the month, doing the show weekly has been fun but as we reach the completion of our LP we have to focus on that and our Live shows for the forseeable future. As we\'re going monthly it also means the return of the guest mixes as we have longer to plan them, starting tonight with a classic mix from the archives by Sheffield\'s finest J!M and Dan Random that was originally recorded for our old show on Brap FM and is so good we thought we\'d dust it off for your listening pleasure. :D

[BRAP009] Rektchordz vs Sam Hell - Blipverts / Boolash

Lordy lord! What a release. Both sides of this very fine piece of black gold (or pikey 1\'s and 0\'s depending on which way you swing) are nothing short of DY-NO-MITE! If you know anything about breaks you\'ll have heard of the very prolifant Recktchordz. With releases on BreaksFM, Unstable, BombTraxx, Trans:Verse, High Grade and Mechanoise this producer has churned out some very phat beats and very tweaky bleeps indeed. I think you should read some blurb before I wet myself.
Jamie Smithson aka Recktchordz has had an obsession with music and its culture since the age of 11. Growing up DJing through many different styles of music , at 21 Jamie has a lot more knowledge about the industry than you would think.

Jamie quickly learnt the basics to launch himself into the world of production. A big step came when Jay discovered Breaks a new love for him to throw all his enthusiasm at.

Countless days and nights in the studio and Recktchordz was formed with a mixture of tech, toughness, grime and funk!
Sam Hell. Well, what is there to say. He\'s appeared almost out of nowhere and pretty much shat on any concept of \'new to the breaks producing\' scene that you may have had. This fellas going places and we are more than proud to have him appear on another Brighton Breaks release. He\'s so good, they\'re even making a film about him. Have some more blurb:
Sam Hell is Jim Holland, a new signing to West London\'s Sinister Recordings

Sam Hell\'s debut single for the label, \"Stay Out All Night\" was released in July 2007, the single received praise from Soul of Man and Dreadzone and was supported by the likes of the Crystal Method, Elite Force and Annie Nightingale

Sam\'s latest single on Sinister is \"Bone Snow\" which is out now on 12\" and Digital Download and features a remix from Dopamine. This has already seen support from the Crystal Method, Lee Coombs and reached no 2 in the DJ Download chart

Having remixed the Beat Monkeys, \"Lords of Eldorand\" for Brighton Breaks in September, Sam Hell was involved in the following release for BB, this time with an original of his entitled, \"Cosimo\". He also remixed \"Get Fresh\" by Breakspoll 2007 Best New Producers, the Groove Diggerz which received glowing responses from the likes of General Midi and Carl Loben
Seriously, this is top drawer shit. All I know is that you medically need this tune. You will die if you don\'t buy this.

Yeah I know, it\'s late. I\'ve been moving house and building desks, bookcases, beds, reconnecting all my kit and basically running around like a Trance addict high on Vicks.

I\'ve tweaked the Podcast so it now shows all the previous months feeds. We were only showing the one at a time until it was suggested that you can enclose stuff in item tags. So I did, and now it\'s all good. So you can hear Electrofied, Airplays and this months Brap.FM DJ Podcast presented by Metroboy.

Metroboy is none other than Ben from West Country DJ extroadinaire duo, Ben and Lex. If you don\'t know who they are then you need to wake the hell up and seek their bumpkin goodness. It\'ll make you clot your cream faster than you can say chompiest sandles in the cundry.

If you like it bleepy, glitchy, minimal and techno orientated then you need to get your ears around this little mix. It\'s 45 minutes of Metroboy goodness and it\'s not to be missed.

Here\'s the Tracklisting:

Dj Hell \'Buttersauce (Perc Remix)\'
Wink \'Dont Laugh (Richie Santana & Peter Bailey Remix)
JPLS \'Green01 (Skoozbot Remix)\'
The Wrongstar Society \'Drink Till She Is Beautiful (Metro Boy Remix)\'
Perc and Fractal \'Up\'
Dubfire \'Roadkill\'
Plastikman \'Spastik (Dubfire Rework)\'
Chris Liebing \'D\'
Stephan Bodzin \'Liebelst\'

And remember you can catch Metroboy LIVE on Brap.FM every other Tuesday from 6 - 8PM.

[EPD009] Rektchordz - Smut + (Ben#key/Influenza remixes)info

EPD009 - www.myspace.com/epidemicrecordings

A: Rektchordz – SMUT -Preview
AA: Rektchordz – SMUT (Ben#Key Remix) -Preview
AA: Rektchordz – SMUT (Influenza Remix) -Preview

Epidemic has been bringing you music for 3 years now, and now we’re arriving on its 9th release. Bringing artists such as Dopamine, Influenza, Projectiles, Transformer Man, and many more, we’re introducing two new members to the Epidemic team, Rektchordz, and the one like Ben#Key.

EPD009 brings the original tune by Rektchordz, SMUT; a big time electro breaks sound and heavy duty attitude. It also boasts MC vocal cuts by the legendary Profit.

The Ben#Key remix takes the electro breaks vibe, and moves it right along in to the hugely popular electro house revolution. It is bouncy, blippy, and bleepy enough for even the snobbiest of electro elitists.

The Influenza remix does the exact opposite. The Canadian boys take this tune to the trenches, and rough it up. Heavy, Dark, and Deep, just as the top Canadian producers do best.

This release has it all, so whatever type of dance floor you are in control of you’ve got the ultimate weapon to add to your arsenal in Epidemic’s 9th release! We truly appreciate your support over the years, and we’re just getting started. We want to be your go to label!

Sincerely,
Flatland Funk
Epidemic Management Team

Ben Smithson aka Ben#Key aka D-Ranged is Rektchordz brother, that’s all we know. Oh yes he makes amazing house, techno, and other genre’s of electro music. J Check out his myspace www.myspace.com/benhashkey his music will speak for itself.

Influenza – www.myspace.com/oddmud

Influenza is the Canadian breakbeat production duo of Jeff Malcolm (aka Psidream) and Jason Craig. Releasing a consistent output of mixes for public consumption, their DJ sets often explore the latest and greatest tracks by producers from around the globe, but also carry a lot of their own flavour and production work.

Since Influenza’s inception 5 years ago, they have been included on approximately 17 vinyl releases, and their catalogue is consistently growing! This is a true testament to the level of dedication they have put into their music. If you crank up the BPM a few notches, you will find Psidream’s catalogue of drum & bass releases has been building regularly over the years.

New Muti Music Website

so after making do with our very 2001 html stylie site for ... well ever since we\'ve been around as a label.
Muti Music now has a new website: http://www.mutimusic.com

It\'s wordpress based so the whole site is on a blog platform and search engine optimized.
Please check it out and sign up for our newsletter if you\'re interested in hearing about future events, giveaways, blogs and events.
The layout, design and more techy bits were done by Phidelity who also has done the sites and album covers for Tipper, psy-trance producer Cosmosis, Native State, KiloWatts and more, he also did the Muti012 Suff-x Six Pack EP release art.

You can also listen to our entire catalog on the site player, for the music pirates out there, the tracks are only 64k MP3 and no if you record them as audio and throw a compressor on them it still does not make them good enough to play on a big system ;)

Don't f*#k with insurance companies

THIS IS THE BEST LAWYER STORY OF THE YEAR, DECADE, AND PROBABLY THE
CENTURY.

A Charlotte, NC lawyer purchased a box of very rare and expensive
cigars, and then insured them against fire, among other things. Within
a month, having smoked his entire stockpile of these great cigars and
without yet having made even his first premium payment on the policy,
the lawyer filed claim against the insurance company.

In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost \"in a series of
small fires.\" The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious
reason that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion.

The lawyer sued, and WON!

(Stay with me.)

In delivering the ruling, the judge agreed with the insurance company
that the claim was frivolous.. The judge stated nevertheless, that the
lawyer \"held a policy from the company in which it had warranted that
the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure
them against fire, without defining what is considered to be
unacceptable fire\" and was obligated to pay the claim.

Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal process, the insurance
company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000 to the lawyer for his
loss of the rare cigars lost in the \"fires\".

NOW FOR THE BEST PART...

After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had him
arrested on
24 counts of ARSON! With his own insurance claim and testimony from
the previous case being used against him, the lawyer was convicted of
intentionally burning his insured property and was sentenced to 24
months in jail and a $24,000 fine.

This is a true story and was the First Place winner in the recent
Criminal Lawyers Award Contest.

ONLY IN AMERICA!

Needle Troubles

I have a problem with a set of needles, they are the Stanton E90 FS. The problem is the movement of the needle, (while cueing) is jumping around so much making it impossible to cue. When adjusting the wieght to make is heavier, the plastic edge of the stylus grinds on the record. I have tried putting blu-tac in to support the needle and to restrict its movement, but that weighs the needle down too much which leads to grinding again.
PLEASE HELP!!!

Your chance to spot doomed spy in sky

A spy satellite has hit the headlines because it is due to crash back to Earth over the next few weeks. But you may not realise that you can easily spot this \"top secret\" craft for yourself.

USA 193 regularly flies over Europe and the Americas. It will be clearly visible this week from Skymania\'s part of the world when it flies several times through UK skies - providing it has not been shot down first!

On Tuesday night (19th) at 6.45pm, UK time, the satellite will be visible as a slow-moving bright \"star\" in the southern part of the sky as it passes across northern France.

But the next night (20th - the night of the total lunar eclipse) brings the ten-ton satellite over Brighton and Dover at 6.38pm, and Thursday (21st) will see it flying directly over London at 6.31pm.

The satellite, which is the size of a small bus and carrying who-knows-what technology, will cross South Wales and the Midlands on Friday night (22nd) at 6.23pm and Manchester at 6.15pm next Saturday (23rd).

For a \"top-secret\" spy, the satellite will be easy to spot, shining down like a bright star. You can distinguish it from an aircraft because it will shine as a single glow as sunlight glints from its hull, 200 miles above the ground.

You can get predictions for your own part of the world by checking with the Heavens Above website.

UK space experts are predicting that the USA 193 will crash to Earth in late March and that chunks of it could survive the fall through the atmosphere. Pentagon chiefs are said to be considering using a missile in a \"star wars\" bid to blast it to smithereens first.

The spy craft is in a highly-inclined orbit of 58.5 degrees. That means it flies over most of the Earth from the Shetlands in the north to Patagonia in the south. It could therefore crash anywhere and there is a slim but real chance that that could be on the UK or Ireland.

USA 193 also carries a full load of hydrazine fuel, which is highly toxic, dangerously unstable and can cause sickness if humans come into contact with it. Normally the fuel would have been used to help keep it in position and to help it come out of orbit safely at the end of its working life. The toxic material beryllium may also be on board.

A British amateur stargazer has already taken the first close-up photo of the spy satellite. Communications consultant John Locker recorded the top-secret craft as it passed over his home in the Wirral in Cheshire.

He used a £40 webcam attached to a telescope in his back garden. John\'s photo reveals that the ten-ton satellite failed to deploy its solar panels properly, causing it to fail after it was launched on December 13, 2006.

British DJ jailed for four years for possession of marijuana

Dubai: A well-known British DJ has been jailed for four years for illegally bringing in and possessing marijuana.

The 40-year-old disc jockey was sentenced by the Dubai Court of First Instance and would be deported after serving his sentence.

The DJ, who had traveled to Dubai to play a set, had previously told the court he did not know the drugs were in his possession and that he had no intention of bringing it to Dubai.

He was arrested at Dubai Airport on November 23, 2007, when a small transparent sack containing 2.16 grams of marijuana was found in his luggage.

If your still guessing which DJ well it were Grooverider

Harmonic Mixing

Harmonic Mixing is the future of DJing. A lot more DJ’s are mixing harmonically these days including Dubfire, Pete Tong, Paul Van Dyke, Tiesto, Sasha, John Digweed, and many more of the worlds top DJ’s. A skilled DJ has the ability to accurately guess which songs will be in key with one another since they know their records so well, but now there is a system that will take the guessing out of your mixing. There is the traditionally method of Harmonic Mixing which a lot of people are familiar with, but my system goes beyond the traditional system of harmonic mixing and will guarantee your tracks will be in key, no matter what PITCH each turntable is on!

What Is Harmonic Mixing?

A Harmonic mix is when two songs in the same key, or complimenting keys are mixed together to give the mix a musical effect that the songs are “singing together”

The best way to find the key of your record is to play each song on the piano and figure out which scale fits the song best (e.x. Am). The easiest way to do this is find what you think is the root note of the song is, then play a major and minor scale and see which one fits best. The piano method is the most accurate way of figuring out the key. However, there is also a program that will analyze the key of the song for you called MIXED IN KEY (www.mixedinkey.com). Not only does mixed in key tell you what key the track is in, but it will also write the key into the tracks ID3 information so it will show up in Programs such as Traktor DJ Studio in the key column, or it will even write the key before the track or artist name. This allows you to sort your playlists by key.

If you know the key of your record, you can assign them a keycode in the Camelot Easy mix chart (Shown Above). The Camelot’s Easy Mix Chart is a replica of the “circle of fifths” (F, C, G, D, A, E, F etc). Using the Camelots Easy mix chart is like going around a clock. You can mix a record with another record in the same key (keycode), or a record that is either to the left, right, above or below that keycode in the Camelot chart, like going around a clock.

Different mixes have different effects on the energy of the room. For example, mixing a fifth up (1A to 2A) will raise the energy of the room. Mixing a 5th down (2A to 1A) will make the mix sing together but it will take the energy “deeper”. In musical terms, a record will mix with another record that is in the same key, its subdominant key, relative minor or major key, or a fifth up. You may also wait for a percussive section of the song and mix in a record that is in a key a half step up, or the next note up in the chromatic scale. This will create the feeling of a Modulation, and the new key will provide a sense of renewed energy because it is using a new set of notes.

Using Camelot Sound’s “Easy Mix” chart will help take the guessing out of your record selection and allow you to make harmonic mixes quickly, and on the fly.

Why Is Harmonic Mixing Inaccurate?

The major problem with using the traditional harmonic mixing method is that to mix records and beatmatch, you must alter the tempo of one record to match the tempo of the other. Changing the tempo of a record will change the pitch, and will also change the KEY of each record. If the tempo is increased or decreased by 6%, the record will be in a new key that is a semitone, or half step higher.

Lets say for example you are playing two records that are both in the same key (A minor). They should mix together harmonically no matter what right? Wrong! If there is a 6% difference in pitch (one turntable on -1% and the other on +5%), they will both be in a different key a half step apart and your mix will most likely sound terrible!

There is a workaround for this and it is called KEY LOCK. Key lock will lock the key of your record no matter what the tempo of your track is, and will make the traditional system of harmonic mixing accurate, EXCEPT, when you slow a record down on key lock, most of the time the sound quality is degraded and sounds “digital” and you can hear what are called “artifacts” in the sound. If you are using Key Lock in a digital DJ program this can also be very CPU heavy.

I have created a new system of Harmonic Mixing!

While doing my final thesis at Berklee College of Music I came up with a solution to this problem and it is called RELATIVE KEY.

The RELATIVE KEY is the NEW KEY of a record at a SET TEMPO (BPM). It does NOT matter what tempo you use as your RELATIVE TEMPO as long as every track is calculated at this BPM value. I use 140 BPM. Keep in mind, I put my drum and bass at 140 BPM, my breaks at 140 BPM, and my downtempo at 140 BPM. This is just a reference tempo. No matter what BPM I Choose, the effect will always be the same!

To EFFECTIVELY mix harmonically without key lock, you need to mix a record with another record in a complimenting RELATIVE KEY.

Once I figure out the Key of all my records at 140 BPM (or whatever relative tempo you choose), I then assign the new key at 140 BPM a keycode in the Camelot Easy Mix Chart (shown above).

The reason I key every track at the same BPM, is because when two tracks are beatmatched they are at the same BPM (tempo), so if they are keyed at the same tempo then no matter where the pitch is on both tracks, they will mix harmonically as long as the relative key is the same

There is an easy way to figure out the key of your records at the relative BPM inside Traktor 3 (Traktor DJ Studio). In the Traktor preferences there is an option to display the key inside the decks. Traktor will actually tell you if your playing the song in the original key, or a new key. To activate this, you go into your preferences, appearance, file info options, and choose to show the key. Now if your turntable is at +6% the “key” field in the decks will say +1, which means you are a half step up.

This may sound like a lot of work, but hard work pays off and you can HEAR the difference. I have done this for almost 4000 of my tracks, and now I never have to think about pitch difference when I’m harmonic mixing. All I have to do is count from 1 to 12 and I can strategically plan my DJ sets this way. It is the science behind party rocking!
